Duncan Cameron (1837-1916)
A fine oil on canvas by noted Scottish artist Duncan Cameron circa 1895. It is an evocative landscape which depicts a shepherd guiding his sheep down a Scottish country lane, with a Loch, the sea and mountains in the background. The painting is full of vitality and Impressionistic colour. It is a fine period Scottish oil painting. Signed lower left “D Cameron” . Excellent condition.

Biography
Duncan Cameron (1837-1916) was born in Perthshire, Scotland and was educated at Dundee and South Kensington, London. He is best known for his fine landscapes of the Scottish countryside with a particular fondness for scenes of cornfields. Cameron exhibited mainly between 1880 and 1908. He is best known as a fine landscape painter of the Scottish countryside with a particular fondness for scenes of cornfields.His obituary in the Scotsman noted ‘his distinctive note… best expressed in the treatment of cornfields’. Basing his work around Stirling and Edinburgh, between 1872-1900 he exhibited at the RA and at the Society of British Artists.In 1876 he was awarded the Gold Medal at Crystal Palace for showing the best landscape. He died in Edinburgh aged 79.
